The role of female entrepreneurs in British business is set to come under the spotlight today during a meeting of 200 business women in London.
Part of a national recruitment drive initiative by industry and regions minister Margaret Hodge, the meeting will aim to help establish a national support network of women in business.
Ms Hodge explained that there is a "demand" for "female role models" in business and that the number of women in business should be boosted.
Manny Lewis, the chief executive of the London Development Agency which co-organised the event, said there are more professional business women in the country "than ever before".
"But while some women have been amongst the most enterprising and innovative in the capital, there is more to be done," he said, adding that the project is a "major step forward" to support female business people.
Equal pay is also in the news today, with the women's rights organisation the Fawcett Society calling on the government to eradicate the gender pay gap.
Commenting, Dr Katherine Rake said: "Women tennis players are finally enjoying equal pay at Wimbledon – it's time for Gordon Brown [to give] all women a sporting chance and finally end the pay gap."
