Workers taking a year out during their career to go travelling are beginning to be embraced by employers, it has been suggested.
Firms are beginning to understand that some people will want to take time out to see the world, research adviser with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development Vanessa Robinson said.
She claimed that many companies are searching for "graduates of the highest calibre" and should appreciate that these employees may consider taking a career gap year at some point.
"More and more employers are recognising that individuals are wanting to take gap years at different stages - before university, after university or at later stage," she stated.
Such experiences can boost a person's employability, Ms Robinson added.
Figures from the Year Out Group show that over the last 12 months, 3,000 people over the age of 40 took time out to go travelling.
