More apprenticeships should be offered in the construction industry, it has been suggested.
The sector must ensure that more people are taking apprenticeships in the industry, the Union of Construction Allied Trades and Technicians (Ucatt) has said.
A spokesperson for Ucatt stated: "The key priority at the moment is just to increase numbers as much as possible."
The issue is a "primary concern" for the construction sector, he added.
Ucatt is currently encouraging more businesses to offer work-based apprenticeships to young workers.
However, the spokesperson noted: "There are issues with female apprenticeships and apprenticeships for ethnic minorities."
The construction industry is "very, very male dominated", he said.
According to the Construction Skills Network, around 182,000 construction workers will be needed to complete all the buildings necessary for the 2012 Olympic Games in London, the BBC reported recently.
Creating better transport links and the man power needed to construct other projects around the UK are included in this forecast.
