Communications giant BT has launched the UK's biggest-ever health drive to tackle employee mental health.
The company has drawn up a campaign called Work Fit – Positive Mentality with the help of trade unions, which is designed to provide practical advice to employees on how to improve mental health at work and at home.
BT said that it hopes encouraging staff to make small changes to their lives – for example in the areas of healthy eating, exercise and relaxation techniques – will help them cope better with the pressures of modern living and work more creatively.
It has been estimated that one in four workers will suffer a mental health problem in their working lives, the company said.
"We need to help our people get mentally fit for their lives at home and at work," said BT's chief medical officer Dr Paul Litchfield.
"BT takes pride in the way it supports people who develop mental illness but we want to go beyond that and help them avoid ill health in the first place so they can lead happier and more productive lives."
The announcement comes after the government launched an Action on Stigma scheme, designed to tackle mental health discrimination among employers.
