BSkyB has announced record subscriptions of nearly half a million customers in its second quarter.
The additions of 432,000 are the highest in six years, bringing its customer base to a total of 8.441 million.
In its latest announcement to the stock exchange the digital TV provider announced an increase in revenue of ten per cent to £2,220 million, and an operating profit of £395 million.
James Murdoch, chief executive of BSkyB said: "In the last six months we have achieved a number of important milestones in building our business for the future.
"Sales of new Sky boxes were the highest for six years, Sky Plus broke through the two million barrier and Sky HD [high definition] almost doubled in size after a strong Christmas sales period. With over one in four of our customers now taking additional services from Sky, more people are choosing our products than ever before."
The company also announced that the rollout of its broadband network is ahead of plan, with 50 per cent of the UK now having access to its products. More than 250,000 customers were connected to the internet through Sky in the second quarter.
"Sky Broadband is attracting new and existing customers with more than two-thirds opting for our faster, paid-for products," added Mr Murdoch.
