The majority of British workers prefer working outdoors rather than being confined to a desk, a new report shows.
Microsoft Windows Mobile found that outdoor locations are the preferred working environment for nine in ten workers.
Working from home came in the second position in the poll, with more than half of respondents claiming their stress levels would be reduced if they could work away from the office.
Flexibility was also cited as a key consideration when choosing a new job by nearly three-quarters of participants.
Consultant Tom Stewart of ergonomic specialist firm System Concepts explained that productivity could be boosted through allowing employees to choose their environment.
"Giving people more choice is empowering, raises morale and improves the relationships between employees and their bosses - it's a win-win," he said.
Employers should also ensure the office is designed in such a way that employees are able to function efficiently, Haywards consultancy managing director Nick Crook told the Financial Times.
He explained that the core workplace environment related to the majority of reasons people gave for leaving their company.
Poor lighting, storage, desk configuration and worker interaction were cited as contributing factors to their reason for leaving, he explained.
