Domino's Pizza has provided further evidence of fast food outlets bucking the recession trend by announcing improved profits for 2008.
On Tuesday Domino's revealed profit before tax for the year ending December 28th was up 24.7 per cent to £23.4 million in the UK and Ireland.
Like-for-like sales were up ten per cent, confirming suspicions that Britons are looking for cheaper alternatives than eating out as incomes are squeezed.
"Our growth continues to be driven by our unfaltering focus and passion for the delivery of our three key priorities - namely great quality pizza, outstanding customer service and innovative marketing that resonates with our customers," said Domino's chief executive officer Chris Moore.
Yesterday chicken specialist KFC announced the creation of 9,000 jobs, a near 50 per cent increase on its UK workforce.
