British workers 'wasting time on office maintenance'
07-11-2006
Staff in British offices are wasting around 32 million hours a year doing odd jobs such as changing lightbulbs, new research claims.
Handyman service 0800handyman said that the average worker was spending around nine minutes a month on keeping the office running smoothly, when they could be getting on with their normal tasks.
It said that it spent on average 15 hours a month serving a typical office with 100 staff.
The company argued that DIY jobs are eating away into the working day, with one executive surveyed even claiming that he spent an hour framing an awards certificate.
Company founder Bruce Greig said: "Top executives as well as junior staff are wasting time doing these jobs.
"It really is a false economy to have your own staff having a go at odd jobs around the office when they should be getting on with their own work."
