A global study has highlighted UK workers as the least likely to be motivated in their jobs.
Out of the six countries surveyed by Right Management, the UK ranked the lowest: only 29 per cent of Britons are fully engaged at work.
So nearly two-thirds of the workforce is left to stare out of their office window, instead of taking pride in the work they do each day.
Charles Fair, research director at Right Management in Europe said a company loses out if the workforce is not engaged at work.
"Staff retention rates are much higher when a workforce is engaged," he said.
But staff loyalty could work against creating a productive workforce – nearly three-quarters of staff that had been with their employers longer than five years were not fully engaged in their jobs.
Mr Fair explained that companies had to work harder to retain talented people who just aren't being stimulated at work.
The Right survey detailed that Norwegians are the most likely to be engaged in their work, where 47 per cent are contented and productive, followed by 43 per cent of the United States workforce.
