Bosses warned about health and safety breaches
Directors have been warned that they could face dismissal from running their company if they do not follow health and safety regulations.

Law firm DWF has claimed that new guidelines may come into force that would see bosses banned from overseeing a business if health and safety rules are flouted.

Health and safety partner at DWF Steffan Groch noted that a recent report from the University of Warwick found that many judges and prosecutors are failing to use the Company Directors Disqualification Act.

"The HSE [health and safety executive] will be encouraging prosecutors to use their powers under the Act," he said.

"It means that, for serious breaches of health and safety rules, they will not only risk a large fine but also could be banned from running a company."

General secretary of Trades Union Congress Brendan Barber recently warned employers that ageism in the workplace is unacceptable.
