BA traffic falls after crash
British Airways (BA) has blamed the crash of flight BA38 and bad weather for a drop in passenger numbers in January.

Passenger capacity in January 2008 for BA was 0.6 per cent below January 2007, while traffic, a measure of sales volume, fell 1.6 per cent.

The UK’s largest airline said that the crash, in which no one was killed, led to a significant number of cancellations and runway operations were disrupted for several days.

In addition, fog and high winds during the month led to further cancellations.

But BA added that premium traffic was up 8.8 per cent.

The airline intends to improve its top-tier service with a complex of six lounges for the exclusive use of up to 2,500 British Airways premium passengers and members of the oneworld alliance's frequent flyer schemes.
