The BBC has put out a call for applications to its Writers' Academy, which is opening to budding screenwriters for a third year.
Successful candidates will be trained in the art of writing for television and will get the opportunity to write an episode of Doctors, which, if up to scratch, will lead trainees to placements on primetime shows such as EastEnders, Casualty and Holby City.
Applicants should have previous experience of writing for television or radio, or some theatre performance experience.
"The scheme is now a major gateway into the industry," commented BBC drama production controller John Yorke.
"As a public service broadcaster it's a unique service that only the BBC can provide and it's fantastic that they continue to support it," he added.
Some screenwriters are graduates in disciplines such as creative writing, journalism and English, while others have formerly worked in fields including copywriting.
