Administrative support 'will improve patient care quality'

Nurses are spending too much time completing their paperwork and they need more help from administrators, it has been suggested.
According to the chair of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation's (REC) Nursing and Social Care Sector Group, Peter Cullimore, increasing the number of clerical staff in the NHS will ease nurses' workloads.
Mr Cullimore stated that this would mean that nurses can spend more time helping their patients and improve the quality of care.
"With the government increasingly focusing on patient feedback and on front-line delivery of healthcare services, it is crucial to address potential barriers such as excessive administrative duties for clinical staff," he commented.
Research released by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) last week also called for further administrative support for NHS nurses.
The RCN report further warned that in the coming months many specialist nursing roles could soon be removed.
