Accountants 'still in demand' despite credit crunch

Some firms are still looking to hire qualified accountants despite the current economic downturn, it has been claimed.
According to Hays Senior Finance, the requirement for accountants is strong in many sectors even though the finance industry shrinking.
The company believes this is because it is a candidate-driven market so it is likely that those with a good set of skills will always be in required.
Teresa Thorrington-Allen, national director at Hays Senior Finance, said: "Qualified accountants will always be in demand and those that ensure they are at the top of their game should never have cause to worry."
She also claimed that the industries most likely to be hiring financial experts are those which have been largely unaffected by the economic uncertainty in the UK.
Recent figures from the Office for National Statistics revealed that overall, the number of job vacancies in the UK is down.
