UK hospitality staff have been defended by the chief executive of Travelodge, after claims that they are "unemployable".
Grant Hearn of Travelodge told CatererSearch that such comments from the chief executive of the British Hospitality Association (BHA) are "nothing short of outrageous".
"Local employees are fundamental in providing a strong service culture in tourism," Mr Hearn told the news source.
The remarks from the BHA boss are "extremely regrettable", he added.
Chief executive of Pride of Britain Hotels Peter Hancock agreed that UK hospitality staff are worth valuing.
"We do have many wonderful home-grown individuals in the trade but employers can't fill all their vacancies without accepting foreign staff too," Mr Hancock stated.
He added that hospitality companies should aim to target the best staff in recruitment drives.
Lois Heywood of recruiter Chess Partnership recently told CatererSearch that restaurants and hotels outside of the capital should expect a tough year ahead.
