Teachers must be adept at using technology in order to keep up with their pupils, it has been suggested.
According to the National Union of Teachers (NUT), extra training has been provided for existing education professionals to help them understand technology.
Acting general secretary of the NUT Christine Blower stated that it has been difficult for teachers to catch up with the rate of change in the technological world.
She remarked: "Teachers have struggled to keep up with children technologically and they do need additional training."
The training courses have been very popular, Ms Blower added, describing them as "packed out".
In fact, £1.5 million of government money has been invested into these training courses in the past four to five years, she said.
Becta is currently trying to encourage greater use of technology by teachers in the classroom as part of its new Next Generation learning campaign announced in January.
