Half of all teachers in England have considered handing in their notice, a new survey has revealed.
According to a poll by the education channel Teachers' TV, class room related-stress was blamed by half of those polled on pupils' use of electronic gadgets. Poor resources in the classroom were cited as a cause of stress by approximately 35 per cent while a further 44 per cent blamed large class sizes.
Lack of respect from pupils was deemed the primary cause of stress, with two-thirds of the teachers questioned claiming to have increased stress levels because of their profession.
Of the 823 teachers involved in the poll, one in ten claimed to work more hours than are permitted by the EU - with 60 per cent blaming their large amount of paperwork.
Andrew Bethell, chief executive of Teachers TV, said: "Teaching is one of the most demanding professions and it is clear that our teachers are feeling the pressure.
"We need to ensure that there are systems in place to help those teachers who experience stress to access available resources and support networks."
