A survey has shown that workers from small and medium-sized businesses are likely to take more environmentally friendly measures in the workplace.
The poll, undertaken by UK energy firm E.ON, found that a third of respondents from small businesses claimed to have changed their methods to lower carbon emissions.
However, over two-thirds of workers from large companies said they felt they had no control over the energy reduction methods adopted by their employers, reported greenbiz.com.
E.ON UK's commercial director Jim Macdonald said: "Our research shows that it's a feeling of needing to ask permission to make positive changes which prevents workers from taking the necessary steps."
He added that many employees are put off suggesting eco-friendly changes due to the "red tape" in place in many businesses' infrastructures.
UK companies are currently being offered cash prizes by the Shell Springboard Programme in exchange for ideas on how to make workplaces more environmentally friendly.
