Being different online
Since you're already on our ClickAJob site, the chances are you've at least looked at uploading your CV - a very, very good idea. The "online you" is actually more than a CV, it's a complete profile as well, separated into categories to be searchable in our database - a tool for employers looking for a particular kind of person. You of course!
Online CVs get a LOT of attention from employers and recruiters, so it's worthwhile making yours as dynamic and hard-working as you can. Remember, make yourself special - the exception from all other candidates. Keep it terse and business-like, proving your personal qualities in a unique way, particularly in the Career Target and Skills sections.
One thing to remember - and this is very important. Employers look for your capabilities first, not who you are. Start with your career profile, not your name or other personal details, making sure you put your job role on the first line. Follow this with the first 25 words of your career statement in one paragraph so it reads like a summary. Your later paragraphs can expand on this opening.
Why should you do this? When employers or recruiters search for staff, their keywords are nearly always the job role: manager, sales executive, designer, etc. This will pull up a short-list of anonymous candidates determined by these keywords, followed by your 25 words of opening statement - a good, tight encapsulation of you as a business proposition. Your full profile is only revealed when the employer clicks on it.
Even then, keep it snappy. Restrict your online CV to career details in the business style so that any employer gets only essential information that can be read quickly. Do not include your address to ensure you remain anonymous. Your email address will of course be withheld.
