Questions of your own
Though it might seem like it, very few interviews are all one-way. Yes, you're answering questions that aim to find out as much about YOU as possible. It's not all like that, as you'll discover at the end, when most interviewers invite you to ask a few questions of your own.
It is vitally important that you use this. And as with everything else, it's an opportunity to emphasise that you're a committed professional and anxious to come on board.
One effective way is be so positive, it's almost as if you already have the job. Imagine the effect of sharing a perspective as though you're a new addition to the staff. Stay relevant, and keep your questions to the developing career you will share with the company. Make sure you ask at least three.
Curved ball questions YOU can ask
What's our company strategy?
Where do we see our company in five year's time?
Do we have any seasonal trends or peak periods throughout the year?
What training opportunities do we have?
What is our company culture?
Who are our main competitors?
Can I take a look round the office?
Where will I sit?
What team will I be working with?
Can I meet them?
It's not over till it's over
Whew! You've made through to the end and you're still in one piece.
Remember your manners. Say thank you. Say thank you again when you get home, by letter or by email. It helps to get you remembered over all your competition.
Then be positive. Prepare for Round Two. If you've come across as you should have done, you're likely to be on the short list. Another interview is on the way.
