Where are you looking?
Search methods to get that job!
If you're serious about getting yourself a new job, we're serious about getting you into the one that's perfect. This advice is serious too.
Where to look
OK, you're in the best possible place to start, right here on ClickAJob. As the largest job market in the UK, we offer more options in one place than anywhere else. Choose how you want to search - and you're away.
Online - make jobs come looking for you
Yes, it's lazy. It's also instant and now. And when you're super-busy like a lot of us are, letting ClickAJob do the work for you saves a lot of worry. Thank goodness for the Internet! All it takes is an email alert in which you set your choice of job and location - and a list of new jobs is sent to you every day or as often as you like. That's having your search done for you!
You can get employers and recruitment consultancies to come looking for you too - people with actual jobs to offer, specifically seeking out your skills and capabilities. How? Just post your CV and they can hunt your profile in our database, anonymous of course, to protect your privacy. Once they like the look of you, they can register and approach you direct, your first step to getting hired - and they do all the work!
When it comes to hands-on of course, nobody can search better than you - you know exactly what you want. But even then, ClickAJob makes it easy. By accessing direct from more than 200 job sites, you have over a million jobs to choose from all in one place - just waiting at the SEARCH JOBS button on your ClickAJob home page.
Recruitment agencies - getting personal attention
The Internet is unbeatable, but sometimes it's reassuring to have a real person involved. This is particularly useful if you need to discuss your career, or need advice on your best move to make next. Since most recruitment agencies specialise, ClickAJob can help here too, by finding a recruitment agency for you in your area.
Of course we have our own ClickAJob experts too - CAJ-Associates - a team of experienced consultants based in Weybridge, Surrey - convenient for London and unchallenged by the M25! Thorough professionals all, CAJ-Associates specialise in Office and Sales, Property, Accountancy, Legal, IT and Secretarial. Contact them here
Employers - some of the best jobs aren't advertised
Ever thought of approaching employers direct? It could be really worth your while. Most big companies are constantly looking for staff, with big quotas of positions to fill. How about it!
You might also be surprised to know there is a huge shortage of talent for skilled positions, and it's getting bigger by the day. To meet this - and hang onto their already-trained staff, many companies try to promote from within. But there aren't always enough people to achieve this - and it causes vacancies when existing staff move up. Get your application in!
Here's how it usually works. A new position falls vacant, so it's offered first to existing staff or people that the company already knows. No advertising - not a word outside the closed circle. Only if there are no takers do they widen the search.
And that's where you come in - before any advertising or professional recruiting is involved. Though to make it work, you'll need to do a little homework. Like finding out who they are and what they do, so you don't come across as unprofessional.
Perhaps you already know a company you would like to work for near you. You can find them - along with most other companies in your area right here on ClickAJob. Please give the system a minute or two though, it has nearly every company in the UK to search through!
In addition to the homework, it's also up to you to find out if they have any vacancies. If they do, chances are good that you have no competition - they're possibly still exploring the internal route. Keep watching the Search Company pages on ClickAJob too. As more and more companies claim their sites, there are more jobs offered direct that you can search for. We wish you luck!
Newspapers and magazines - spreading the net wide
You've probably already seen the job ads in your local newspaper and the nationals. There are also lots of free sheets and even special papers for job seekers. All of them are good options.
Timing is the thing here - newspaper readers know they must move fast, as soon as the new editions hit the streets, to be sure of getting on the candidate list. Before the Internet, that often meant waiting at the newsagent for papers to be delivered. Fortunately most newspapers are now online and so are their job adverts. But you still need to be quick!
Local newspapers are great for finding jobs in your area. Looking in the "smalls" is full of opportunity right on your doorstep. The nationals are geared for more specialist segments and the more senior positions. Look for "appointments" more than jobs - and again visit their websites to get in quick and find a better understanding of what they offer.
